After School Classes

At Wizz Theatre Academy we always have fun at the beginning and end of classes with warm ups and games. With small class numbers, every child gets the individual time they need to grow. All primary and intermediate classes are an hour in length, some advanced classes are slightly longer.

Musical Theatre Classes

Musical theatre is what I like to think of as the musical extension of drama. It’s where all three skills (acting, singing and dancing/movement) come together to create and tell a story. The ultimate goal is to become a ‘triple threat’ – which is when you are equally as good at all three disciplines. In a musical theatre class you can expect to be learning songs, practising your acting and working on your dancing skills. I come from a background in all three disciplines and help each child individually to work on specific areas of focus for them. Some of my classes are catered towards students who do not wish to sit exams, and prefer a class with more group work and improvisation.

Students will be learning:

  • Singing Techniques (breath control, improving vocal range, rhythm, pitch control and warm ups)
  • The Craft of Acting (how to research and prepare a character, acting techniques, physicality and voice work)
  • Moment, Dance and Mime Skills (working with the teacher to develop storylines, movement and choreography, learning how to warm up correctly and developing flexibility and strength)

Musical theatre classes are $25 per class for primary aged students, $30 per class for secondary aged, and $35 per class for advanced students (Grade 7 and 8 – Ages 16 -18). You will receive an invoice at the beginning of each term. We are flexible with payment options, so let us know if you have any special requests.

Our Schedule

Term one: Introductions

In term one we get to know each other playing lots of fun games and activities. Students will pick individual pieces to work on and start to develop their skills. If sitting an exam, students will choose their examination pieces.

Term Two: Development and Detailing

Students will continue to work on their pieces, refining and detailing them for examinations. We will develop our skills further and practice performing to our peers more frequently. If sitting an exam, near the end of term two you will sit a ‘mock’ or ‘practice’ examination to help you prepare.

Term Three: Examinations

In term three students can sit a Trinity College International examination if they wish. There is no pressure, and students who choose not to do an exam will continue to work on individual or pair pieces.

Term Four: Performance time

Students will prepare for the end of year showcase, which always involves a group number. Students always really enjoy the preparations for this. We also have lots of fun exploring improvisational games and activities in class.
